2012 new Ford EcoSport Compact SUV unveiled
After numerous renderings and weeks of anticipation, Ford India has finally unveiled the new 2012 Ford EcoSport Compact SUV ahead of its official debut at the Delhi Auto Expo tomorrow. And along with the EcoSport’s debut, the event also marks the entry of the much acclaimed 3 cylinder, 1.0 liter Ecoboost turbo petrol engine in India.
The new Ford EcoSport compact SUV is based on Ford’s new global B-Car architecture and is the latest offering under the ‘One Ford’ policy. While the new EcoSport shares a lot in common with the Fiesta, one look at the new compact SUV from Ford is sufficient to rule out any major resemblance to the Fiesta.
The five-door new Ford EcoSport sports a modern muscular styling approach. A large trapezoidal front grille takes up most the front end, with the front headlights being more slimmer and technical than on the Fiesta. The lower front bumper and side sills get cladding with a fixed spare wheel at the back as a small reminder of the EcoSport’s off-road intentions. The roof gets chrome rails and the rear side windows sport the Ford styled north bound tilt in the window line.

Powering the new 2012 Ford EcoSport compact SUV will be a 3 cylinder, 1.0 liter Ecoboost turbo petrol engine capable of delivering 120PS of power and 170Nm torque. The 1.5-litre diesel engine that currently does duty on the Ford Fiesta is also set to join the line up.
The Ford EcoSport will most probably measure in at under 4 meters in length, allowing Ford to price the car very competitively somewhere in the region of Rs. 7-9 lakh. Although the Ford EcoSport is the second compact SUV in the Indian market, after the Premier Rio, the new EcoSport could very well go on to achieve what the Rio failed to, get decent figures on the sales chart.
