New Ford EcoSport Production Started; First Pictures and Video
Production of the eagerly anticipated Ford EcoSport began on the 1st of August, 2012. And now a week later, Ford has shared with us images of first unit to come out of the assembly lines which is a 1.6i Flex Freestyle variant sporting a silver gray body color. The Indian version of the Ford EcoSport will be powered by an advanced 1-liter Ecoboost petrol engine. Details of its diesel counterpart are still unknown.
Manufacturing of the EcoSport is set to commence in China, Thailand and India in the coming months. Ford has invested over Rs. 700 crore at its Chennai plant to get the EcoSport’s production underway. The 1-liter Ecoboost petrol engine will not be manufactured in India during the initial stages of production.
The Ford EcoSport being under 4 meters in length will enjoys the same excise benefit as a small car making it cheaper in the Indian market when compared to the Brazilian one where it is positioned between between 53,490 reals(Rs. 14.65 lakh) and 59,990 reals(Rs. 16.43 lakh). Moving on to launch plans, Ford India has confirmed that the new Ford EcoSport will be launched as early as Q1 2013.
