Honda’s Earth Dreams diesel engine to be unveiled at Geneva 2012
Honda will be unveiling its new Earth Dreams 1.6L diesel engine at the upcoming 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The new engine will be the first of five upcoming powertrains and the new diesel engine will go into production early next year.
Honda claims the new 1.6 diesel unit to be the lightest in its class with CO2 emissions listed at below 100g/km. The new 1.6L diesel unit will be showcased under the hood of the European Honda Civic with the 1,596cc unit producing 118bhp at 4,000rpm and 300 NM of Torque at 2,000rpm. Although details regarding fuel efficiency have not been announced, we have our hopes high for the new diesel unit from Honda.
Honda is also working on a new 1.2 liter diesel engine, which will be a downsized variant of the 1.6 liter engine. The three cylinder, 1.2 liter diesel engine is expected to power the Honda Brio and the Jazz hatchbacks in the near future.
