  • 2012 Hyundai i20 Fluidic launched in India at a price tag of Rs. 4.73 lakh

Amidst all the commotion regarding the new Hyundai i20, Hyundai India has launched the 2012 facelifted i20 Fluidic hatchback. The new 2012 i20 Fluidic is now available in a whopping 12 variants with prices ranging from Rs. 4.73 lakh for the base petrol variant, going all the way up to Rs. 7.6 lakh for the top end petrol automatic variant.

After making its debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the i20 Fluidic has first arrived onto the Indian market, thus making India the first car market where the new car with the Fluidic design treatment goes on sale. The biggest change mechanically comes on the 1.2 Liter petrol engine of the i20, which now gets variable valve timing(Dual VTVT in Hyundai speak). This engine now produces a peak power of 84 Bhp, up from the previous output of 80 Bhp. The 1.4 Liter, 80 Bhp petrol engine remains unchanged and so does the 1.4 Liter, 90 Bhp common rail turbo diesel engine.

2012 Hyundai i20 Fluidic Interiors Dashboard

The major changes in the 2012 Hyundai i20 Fluidic hatchback are that it features an all new front end and rear end inspired by the Fluidic design philosophy which runs across most if not all Hyundai cars. In the Indian car market, only the Accent sedan and the Santa Fe crossover are the car models yet to receive the Fluidic design treatment. Apart from the design changes, the interiors also get a few design elements being tweaked like the colors on the stereo and the colors used on the dashboard. These changes apart, the Hyundai i20 Fluidic also gets additional features in the form of a reverse camera and LED fog lamps for starters.

The Hyundai i20 diesel now gets back the 6 speed manual gearbox with the 6th gear as overdrive. Hyundai has discontinued this gearbox on the i20 after the arrival of the new Verna Fluidic and many i20 buyers will be delighted to have this gearbox back, which is quite useful for highway cruising. The automatic petrol version retains the 4 speed automatic gearbox.
