Hyundai Eon Small Car launched in India at a price tag of Rs. 2.69 lakh

Hyundai has launched the Hyundai Eon which is directly pitted against Maruti Suzuki’s global top seller Alto, firing a warning shot across the bow of its bleeding arch rival which has been wounded by a strike at one of its plants. Priced at Rs. 2.69 lakh for the base variant, the entry level compact car Eon has been developed specifically for the Indian market.

The Eon is a petrol powered car that is powered by a 55 Bhp-76.5 Nm, 814cc three cylinder engine. The key feature of this engine apart from the higher power and torque rating than what the competition offers is its stellar ARAI certified fuel economy number of 21.1 KMPL. The 6 variants of this car are Hyundai Eon D-Lite, D-Lite (O), Era, Magna, Magna (O) and Sportz with the latter being the top end variant.

The base version of the Eon comes without a power steering and the top end model boasts of having a power steering along with AC, music system, central locking, driver air bag and power windows. Other features include chrome finish front grille, taller tail lamps, fog lamps and wheel covers.

“Eon, with its fluidic styling and contemporary engineering, will directly hit the dated Alto and affect Maruti’s fortunes,” said Deepesh Rathore, managing director of IHS Automotive India. Added one Delhi-based CEO of an automotive company: “It’s an ideal buy for first time car buyers who account for 25% of the 2-million new cars sold in India,”

The Eon D-Lite is priced at INR 2.69 Lakhs, the D-Lite(O) at INR 2.91 Lakhs, the Era at 3.21 Lakhs, the Magna at INR 3.36 Lakhs, the Magna(O) at 3.46 Lakhs and the top end Sportz variant at INR 3.71 Lakhs, all prices ex-showroom Delhi.
