2014 new Maruti Suzuki Jimny/Gypsy Concept coming to Auto Expo
Maruti Suzuki India will be showcasing a new concept SUV at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo. And to heat up things for the event, Maruti Suzuki have posted a few teaser images of the new compact SUV on their website. Now we are expecting a successor to Maruti’s highly capable Gypsy which still continues to sell in limited numbers in the Indian market.
As seen from the images posted on Maruti Suzuki’s website, the front end of the concept SUV slightly resembles the one seen on the popular Suzuki Jimny. Now the Suzuki Jimny is the successor to the legendary Gypsy and this gives us all the more reason to believe that the upcoming SUV concept from Maruti will be the Gypsy’s successor in India. There is also a possibility of Maruti launching the new concept under a new name all together as they might not yet be ready to bid goodbye to the current Gypsy from the Indian market.
The new compact SUV concept that Maruti have planned for the upcoming Auto Expo might very well be Maruti’s take on the likes of the potential rival compact SUV’s from Ford, Mahindra and Hyundai. Ford will be unveiling its new EcoSport SUV at the exposition with Hyundai also planning to showcase a compact SUV at the auto expo. Mahindra, not to be left far behind, is also working on a new sub Rs. 4 lakh compact SUV codenamed the S101.
Now going by Maruti’s trends when it comes to concepts and production ready vehicles, we should see an official unveiling of the production ready version of the new compact SUV sometime in 2014.
