Japanese auto maker, Nissan, has announced plans to start production of the Nissan Micra at Renault’s Flins plant in France. Nissan had back in 2010 switched production of the Micra from Sunderland, UK to Chennai, India in order to free up production capacity for the Juke. The Chennai factory, owned by the Renault-Nissan, will continue to produce the current version for the Micra and will also manufacture the next generation beginning in 2016, Nissan said. Nissan’s low cost brand, Datsun, will finally be making its comeback after 3 long decades this July. Nissan had earlier in 2012 announced plans to revive the Datsun brand by developing five models for launch across its three key markets – Indonesia, Russia and India. The first Datsun to be launched in India will be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and by the middle of 2014, Datsun’s first small car, based on the previous generation K2 Micra, is expected to go on sale. When the Volkswagen Polo was first launched in India, the top of the line variant was powered by a 1.6L engine. The 1.6L variant was however discontinued in 2012 due to slow sales and high excise duties which made the Polo 1.6 a costly option.
