Porsche Macan is the new SUV from Porsche
Porsche is working on a new baby SUV called the Macan and have released a sketch of a concept version of the SUV that goes into production in 2013. The new Porsche Macan SUV which is smaller than the Cayenne was being referred to as the Cajun (Cayenne Junior in short).
As per Porsche, the name Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger and combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics which will be the building blocks of this new SUV. The Macan is part of Porsche’s new-model strategy known internally as “Strategy 2018”.
Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG said in a statement, “The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche. The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations.”
Porsche is attempting to expand its portfolio of vehicles within the next six years and the Porsche Macan is the beginning of that expansion.
The Porsche Macan SUV will be manufactured in Porsche’s Saxony production-line in Leipzig, Germany in 2013. Post an investment of 500 million Euros, the new plant is one of the biggest building projects in Porsche’s corporate history.
The Macan – Porsche’s fifth full production model alongside 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne and the Panamera – fits in with its plans to significantly expand the company’s model range by 2018. As for future plans, any auto show this year might see the unveiling of the new baby SUV followed by a launch sometime later next year.
