2012 new Tata Safari Storme unveiled at Auto Expo in Delhi
Tata Motors have unveiled the new 2012 Tata Safari Storme at the ongoing 2012 Indian Auto Expo in Delhi. Putting aside all rumors that the Safari moniker would be dropped with the launch of the new SUV, Tata Motors will be carrying on with the Safari branding christening the new SUV as the 2012 Tata Safari Storme.
A quick glance at the Safari Storme’s exterior and one can unmistakeably see the resemblance between the new Storme and the current Safari. But, a closer inspection will reveal that the new Safari Storme is actually an entirely new breed from Tata’s stables. The most prominent change is the adoption of Tata’s modern X2 platform that also underpins the Aria.
The exterior styling language features an all-new front grille and headlamp design. The new Safari Storme also comes with new tailgate, dual chrome tipped exhausts and an aerodynamic spoiler on the rear. Moving on inside we have a new beige colored upholstery matched with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, chrome highlighted gear knob, wood-accented dashboard and door trims, a new instrument cluster and chrome-lined speaker grills.

Under the hood of the new 2012 Tata Safari Storme we have a 2.2L 16-valve common rail (DiCOR) engine producing 140 PS power and 320 Nm torque with a variable geometry turbo, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Moving over to safety features the new Safari Storme is equipped with 4-channel ABS with EBD, a new rack-and-pinion steering system, rigid ladder frame construction with hydro-formed long members, side intrusion beams on all doors, dual SRS airbags, inertia switch and an auto engine immobiliser.
Exact pricing details have not been announced yet and it is also still not clear whether the Safari Storme will be replacing the current Safari or will both go on to sell in the Indian market. But we do have lots of pictures of the new 2012 Safari Storme to keep you busy till then.
