Honda to launch new diesel engine in 2012 : Will power City, Jazz and Small Car
Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) has confirmed the launch of diesel engines in India by 2012. Initially, the engine will be launched in Europe followed by an all Asia launch. The new diesel engine will be under 2000cc and will power the Honda Jazz, City and the new Honda Small Car (yet to be launched).
A senior spokesperson reported, “The small diesel engine will be ready for European models by 2012. We’re thinking of bringing this to India after that, though with modifications. It is likely to be used in cars below the Accord and CR-V, like the City, Jazz and the new small car.”
As of now, Honda does not have any diesel engine below the 2.2L CR-V and Accord engine, and this has been a major downside for Honda sales worldwide.
